HD: Woods finishes initial chemotherapy treatments
With a road game versus undefeated Texas Tech just five days away Austin Woods walked into the Adrian Peterson Media Room Tuesday night with a smile on his face.
The battle that Woods and his teammates face Saturday in Lubbock will be nothing when compared to the fight that the Rockwall (Texas) Heath native has endured over the last several months.
Diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma last spring Woods finished his final chemotherapy treatment Oct. 1.
"It's very great. I'm just really thankful I got through it and I'm really happy I made it through with not too many set backs along the way. I'm glad to be done with it," said Woods.
"I'll get another scan in three weeks and then from that point they'll be able to tell me if I'm in remission or not but all my scans previous to this have come back excellent. Everything looks good right now."
A victory for Woods that will never be matched on the football field.
"I've been going and getting treatment every two weeks so I knew that (yesterday) was going to be my last one so I wasn't too surprised," announced Woods. "I had the treatment yesterday and today I took the day off but I'll be back out there tomorrow."
Something of which should come as no surprise, as Woods has become an inspiration for teammates, family and friends, rarely missing summer workouts or practice unless- of course- he found himself sitting in a chair undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
"It has been great with all the fans tweeting me (@AwesomeWoods50) it's been great and all my teammates it has just been really great. It probably wouldn't have been easy if I didn't have all the support and that's what really helped me through this."
