Army Bowl a gauge for Golson
His spring performances on the camp and combine circuit vaulted him into a national level prospect. He spent the summer in Atlanta at The Rivals Five-Star Challenge and attended The Opening at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.
After solid camp efforts at both events, he will be packing his bags yet again. This January, his travels will take him to San Antonio to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Golson received his Army All-American jersey Thursday at Prattville (Ala.) in an afternoon ceremony. He said, "It's an honor to be selected to play in such a big game. I hope I can represent for the 'Noles."
The Yellowhammer State star is hoping to put on another good showing when gets to Texas.
"I can't for the game, so I can show what I can do as a player against the best of the best," he said.
Unfortunately for Golson, he wasn't able to take part in padded drills at The Opening due to Alabama High School Athletic Association rules barring players to wear shoulder pads during the elite event.
The Army game will be a measuring stick for him to show belongs among the nation's elite.
"I didn't think I was going to get a scholarship, so the U.S. Army game was not something I dreamed about. It's very special and I'm excited about being there," he said.
