A chance to play for it all

An amazing Saturday evening of college football has put fifth-ranked Georgia in a position to possibly do something Bulldog fans have only dreamed about for over 30 years - play for the national championship.

Thanks to Stanford's 17-14 overtime victory over previously No. 2 Oregon and Baylor's 52-24 rout of No. 1 Kansas State, Georgia would appear to control its own destiny in regards to earning a spot in the BCS title game - providing it beats Georgia Tech Saturday in Athens (noon, ESPN) and presumably Alabama at the SEC title game Dec. 1 in the Georgia Dome.

After his team's 45-14 win over Georgia Southern Saturday, Bulldog coach Mark Richt was asked if he would be rooting for a scenario which would allow his team to compete for a national crown.

"Oh yeah, absolutely, we'll see what happens," Richt said. "I'm just really glad we got the victory."

Especially after Saturday's late games were complete.

It didn't take long for Bulldog players to hit Twitter after Jordan Williamson's 37-yard field goal sunk the Ducks in overtime.

"It's going crazy in the Murray household right now," Bulldog quarterback Aaron Murray tweeted to fans right after the Stanford win.

He wasn't the only one.

"We control our own destiny," linebacker Christian Robinson said.

"Natty time, like I said," fellow linebacker Amarlo Herrera Tweeted.

Wide receiver Rhett McGowan probably laid it out best.

"Let's take care of business…Playoffs start now!" McGowan Tweeted to his followers.

But before Georgia (10-1) can worry about Atlanta, there's the not-so-small matter of Saturday's game against the Yellow Jackets, who no doubt would draw great pleasure from ending the Bulldogs' national championship dreams.

Richt has no doubt about that.

"They'll (Georgia Tech) will be playing for a lot, OK?" Richt said again in his post-game press conference. "This game means a lot - period. We know what's at stake, they know what's at stake. It's a huge game, and regardless of anybody's record, we know how important a game this is."

No kidding.
