Revisiting the five keys

After a 38-0 loss to No. 1 Notre Dame (11-0) in South Bend Wake Forest (5-6, 3-5 ACC) has one more opportunity to become bowl-eligible Saturday, Nov. 24 when Vanderbilt (7-4, 5-3 SEC) visits Winston-Salem for a post-Thanksgiving meeting.

Deacons Illustrated rewinds back to Wake's shutout loss to the Fighting Irish to see how the Demon Deacons performed in regard to the "Five keys."

1) Keep 'em guessing

The Irish had an answer for all of Wake Forest's schemes and tricks. Notre Dame held the Deacs to 209 yards of total, including a meager 55 yards on the ground.

2) Confuse Golson

Everett Golson was flawless aside from when Allen Ramsey intercepted him.

The redshirt freshman from Myrtle Beach, SC completed 20-30 pass for 346 yards and three touchdowns, as the Wake Forest defense unable to bring him down.

3) Turnovers

Wake failed to capitalize on Ramsey's pick, while the Fighting Irish scored on a two-yard touchdown pass from Golson to Tyler Eifert to go up 14-0 after Josh Harris' fumble.

4) Price to Campanaro

Tanner Price and Michael Campanaro were rendered ineffective for the second week in a row.

Price completed a solid 22-33 passes, but for only 153 yards, while Campanaro caught six passes for 47 yards.

The Demon Deacons did not have a single receiver eclipse 50-yard mark for the second week in a row.

5) Luck of the Irish

Not nearly enough went Wake Forest's way in South Bend for the Deacs to have a chance at upsetting ND. Wake failed to take advantage of the few opportunities that could have been advantageous to the Demon Deacon cause. Notre Dame obviously had something to with that.
