Entire SEC dominating BCS

Everyone knows that Alabama claimed its third national title in the past four years with a convincing 28-point victory in the championship game last Monday.

But, the story of the college football season was not simply the Crimson Tide. The entire Southeastern Conference proved to be by far the best among BCS leagues.

There were 18 BCS conference teams who reached the ten-win mark. Exactly one-third of those teams played in the SEC - Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Texas A&M and LSU.

No other BCS conference had more than three teams win at least ten games. In fact, the Big Ten Conference was the only other BCS league with more than two teams winning double-digit games - Ohio State, Northwestern and Nebraska.

The success of the SEC is certainly not a one-year situation. Over the past five seasons, four SEC teams recorded ten victories at least three times - Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU. The Crimson Tide had five ten-win seasons in that span.

Oregon is the only other BCS conference team besides Alabama to win at least ten games for the past five seasons. Four teams have had four ten-win seasons over the last five years - Cincinnati, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech.

No team has been in a BCS bowl each of the past five seasons. Three schools have been in four BCS bowls during that time - Alabama, Ohio State and Oregon. The Buckeyes would have been 5-for-5 were it not for being ineligible for a bowl game in 2012.

Alabama and Ohio State are the only two schools who have won three BCS bowl games. Just three other teams have won two BCS bowl games in the last five years - Florida, Oregon and Stanford.
