All-conference Louisiana players

After a couple of down years for former Louisiana high school football players, they made their presence known in BCS conferences this past season.

Nine Louisiana natives received Associated Press all-league honors at a BCS conference school. As would be expected, six of the nine players participated in the Southeastern Conference. The other three honorees came from the Big XII and Big Ten conferences.

The one somewhat discouraging fact is that just three of the nine players were in a LSU uniform - defensive tackle Bennie Logan from Red River, defensive end Barkevious Mingo from West Monroe and safety Eric Reid from Dutchtown.

Three former Louisiana high school players made All-SEC at schools other than LSU - Vanderbilt cornerback Andre Hal from Port Allen, Alabama running back Eddie Lacy from Dutchtown and Tennessee offensive lineman Dallas Thomas from Scotlandville.

The other three Louisiana natives at BCS conference schools to earn all-league honors are TCU linebacker Kenny Cain from Curtis, Kansas State offensive lineman Cornelius Lucas from Karr and Penn State linebacker Michael Mauti from Mandeville.

None of the nine all-league players was rated a five-star recruit. In fact, five of the nine were either a two or three-star recruit.

Here are the 2012 statistics for the nine players.
