Rewind: LSU 14, Tulane 1

Alex Bregman and Mason Katz combined for seven hits and five runs batted in as LSU defeated Tulane 14-1 at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans on Tuesday night.

HOW THEY SCORED
LSU first inning - With one out, a walk to Mark Laird and singles by Bregman and Raph Rhymes loaded the bases. Katz doubled home Laird and Bregman. Rhymes scored on a sacrifice fly to leftfield by Christian Ibarra. Katz scored when leftfielder Andrew Garner missed JaCoby Jones' fly ball. Andrew Stevenson singled home Jones. LSU 5, TULANE 0

LSU second inning - With one out, Laird singled and moved to second on a passed ball by Cameron Burns. Bregman singled home Laird. Bregman, who advanced to second on the throw to the plate, moved to third on a wild pitch by David Rankin. After Rhymes grounded out to shortstop, Katz singled home Bregman. LSU 7, TULANE 0

Tulane second inning - Sean Potkay was hit by a pitch and went to second on a passed ball by Ty Ross. Potkay moved to third on a single by Garner and scored when Ricahrd Carthon hit into a force play at second base. LSU 7, TULANE 1

LSU third inning - With one out, Stevenson was hit by a pitch and stole second. After a single by Ross, Sean McMullen hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring home Stevenson. LSU 8, TULANE 1

LSU fourth inning - Bregman singled and moved to third on a single by Rhymes. Katz singled home Bregman. LSU 9, TULANE 1

LSU eighth inning - Casey Yocom walked and went to third on a double by Chris Sciambra. Yocom scored when Tyler Moore reached on an error by second baseman Tim Yandel. Michael Barash was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Jones struck out, Stevenson singled home Sciambra. A sacrifice fly to leftfield by Chris Chinea drove in Moore. After a wild pitch by Emerson Gibbs, McMullen singled home Barash and Stevenson. LSU 14, TULANE 1

LSU WASTED SCORING CHANCES
Sixth inning - With one out, Bregman singled and Rhymes walked. Katz hit into an inning-ending double play.

LSU HITTING STARS
Bregman continued his torrid hitting with four singles in as many at-bats. Bregman extended his hitting streak to 13 games during which time he is 31-for-57. Bregman now has 16 hits in his last five games. Bregman scored three runs and drove in a run with his single in the second. Katz gave LSU the lead with a two-run double in the first. He also singled home runs in the second and fourth innings. Katz now has 41 RBIs - the most for any player in the country.

LSU STARTING PITCHER
Russell Reynolds made his second strong start as he allowed one run and four hits in seven innings. Reynolds, who had thrown just ten innings prior to Tuesday, blanked Northwestern State for five innings last Wednesday. Reynolds walked one and struck out four. In the third inning with runners on first and second and no one out, Reynolds got Blake Crohan to hit into a double play, started by the third baseman Ibarra, and Garrett Cannizaro to ground out to shortstop. Reynolds retired 12 consecutive batters until Garner singled with one out in the seventh. Tulane loaded the bases on an error by Moore at first base and a catcher's interference call against Chinea. Reynolds got Brandon Boudreaux to ground out to second base to end the inning. The victory was the first of Reynolds' career.

LSU BULLPEN
The game was called after eight innings due to the ten-run mercy rule. Hunter Devall and Hunter Newman divided the pitching duties in the eighth. Devall allowed a single and registered a strikeout. After walking two batters, Newman struck out Tyler Chamberlain-Simon and got Carthon to ground out to him.

NOTES
McMullen was inserted into the leadoff spot in the lineup. McMullen, who was the designated hitter, reached base twice in six plate appearances. He walked in the seventh and had a two-run single in the eighth. McMullen, who struck out once, had a sacrifice fly in the third. . .Stevenson started in centerfield and had two run-scoring singles. . .Rhymes had two hits as he extended his hitting streak to seven games. . .Ibarra saw his hitting streak end at eight games. He was 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly. . .Jones went hitless in five at-bats and is now 1-for-21 over the last five games. . .The Tigers were 8-for-17 with runners in scoring position. . .The 14 runs matched LSU's season high. The Tigers also scored 14 runs against Maryland. . .Tulane starting pitcher Brady Wilson was charged with seven runs in 1.1 innings. . .LSU made a season-high three errors. Bregman was the only starter to make a miscue. . .Tigers pitchers have allowed fewer than two runs in nine games this season. LSU held its opponents to fewer than two runs just 14 times all last year. . .The Green Wave had just five hits - two each by Brennan Middleton and Garner. . .The Tigers have now won nine of their last 11 games against Tulane. . .The 13-run margin of victory was LSU's largest against Tulane in 13 years. The Tigers defeated the Green Wave 21-6 at Zephyr Field in 2000. The last time LSU won a game on Tulane's home field by such a margin occurred 32 years ago. The Tigers defeated the Green Wave 22-9 in 1981. . .LSU is 23-2, while Tulane is 14-13. Only two other Tigers teams won 23 of their first 25 games - the 1997 and 1986 clubs. . .LSU has now won 21 consecutive games against in-state schools.

NEXT UP
LSU will play Missouri at Taylor Stadium in Columbia on Friday at 6 p.m. Missouri (8-12, 2-4) will play Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday night. Aaron Nola (3-0, 3.29 ERA) will be the Tigers' starting pitcher.
