RivalsCamp: Underclassmen

CLICK HERE for complete Rivals Camp coverage

What are the Rivals Camps? The first ever Rivals.com Camp Series sponsored by Under Armour will make it's second of two Illinois based stops on Saturday May 4th at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. Maine South is located just a stone's throw from O'Hare International Airport in the near Northern suburbs.

Who is invited? The Rivals Camps are invitation only and will feature the best of the best recruits in the region as determined by the Rivals.com network of national and regional recruiting experts. The Chicagoland area Rivals Camp will bring together roughly 200 recruits from several different states this Sunday. Registration is closed for this camp and no walk-up registration is allowed.

Top performers from the Chicagoland area camp will be selected to participate in the National Rivals.com Five Star Challenge along with the Underclassmen Challenge to be held later this summer.

Why Chicagoland area for the Rivals Camp? The Chicagoland Rivals Camps will be the 15th and final stop on this nation-wide tour and Chicagoland makes sense for these camps on many levels. Chicagoland and Illinois has been producing some solid recruiting classes in 2013 and now 2014. The area as a whole is improving on a recruiting scale both regionally and nationally. Chicago remains one of the most accessible big cities in the nation. O'Hare airport is literally 10 minutes away from Maine South and the Chicagoland area is accessible via several different transportation means. Chicago is also the third largest media market in the country and Yahoo/Rivals.com has a recent partnering agreement with NBC Sports/Comcast Sportsnet.

Important for Chicagoland? The O'Fallon Rivals Camp a few weeks ago no question made a solid impression on the uppity ups at Rivals and showed that Illinois can and will support these camps both with overall talent and numbers as well as with support from the high schools and the state association. Chicagoland will hopefully increase the impression and the reputation for the Land of Lincoln when it comes to football. Illinois has been known as a basketball state for many years and while hoops is still top dog events such as this along with the recently announced Rivals.com 5 Star Challenge (which will feature the Top 100 prospects nationally in June at Soldier Field) will just increase the presence both regionally and nationally of football in Illinois.

Why go to the Rivals Camps? The Rivals Camps are a great place to compete against some of the top recruits in the nation. These invite only events will guarantee that you'll square off against the best of the best. The amount of recruits allowed to attend the Rivals Camps have been capped unlike other similar camps so player can expect to get plenty of work all day on Saturday. The overall coverage and exposure from the Rivals.com network is second to none just CLICK HERE to see some previous camp coverage. Rivals.com is the unquestioned online leader in football recruiting coverage and the Rivals.com audience literally doubles several other networks combined. Yahoo/NBC Sports which includes Rivals.com was recently named as the #1 most viewed sports network in the nation.

Also important to note: The Rivals Camps are NOT combines and unlike others this camp does NOT perform any testing or any timing whatsoever. The Rivals Camps are all football drill work and skills. The Rivals Camps feature the best players doing what they do best which is play football. Recruits are judged and evaluated performing football only related drills and one on ones. We leave the stop watches at home.

Top Underclassmen to Watch

Below are some 2015 and 2016 prospect who could have a big day on Saturday at the RivalsCamp.

OT Erik Swenson (6-foot-7, 290 pounds) Downers Grove South 2016- just look at the sheer measureables and for a freshman in high school the overall size and potential of Swenson is off the charts. Now, this is NOT just your typical overhyped/overgrown kid who can't block the sun on a bright mid August day. Swenson showed last fall starting for the Mustangs that he's quickly becoming a technically savy blocker and is just getting better and better. Now on Saturday? Expect Swenson to get challenged by the older kids, expect Swenson to get beat a few times in one on ones. The biggest question I have is how well will Swenson handle the smaller and quicker defensive linemen here? In the end this is just the beginning for what could be the next great offensive tackle prospect from the Land of Lincoln.

QB Jack Beneventi (6-foot-6, 190 pounds) Benet Academy 2015 Beneventi has already landed a handful of impressive early offers from the likes of Notre Dame and Iowa. I was able to see Beneventi up close this winter at Throw It Deep and founder Jeff Christensen had the look of a kid trying to hold back a really big secret. After I saw Beneventi whip several bullets along with being able to make every conceivable touch pass I had seen enough. Beneventi as a sophomore in 2012 helped lead Benet Academy from a 1-8 season in 2011 to a 11-2 record last fall. Beneventi has size, arm strength and the makeup and polish your looking for in a top flight signal caller. His work ethic and off the field behavior is exceptional. Beneventi still needs to gain experience at the varsity level ands still has a ways to go in his reads and progressions, yet in the end this is easily one of the Midwest top signal caller prospects in 2015.

WR Miles Boykin (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) Providence Catholic 2015- could everyone do me a favor? Could you all walk up to Miles on Saturday and in a polite way and tell him he's a football player. Please? Boykin is a two sport standout at the Emerald Isle and in all fairness he's a very strong hoops player. Yet football is his calling card in my opinion. Boykin has physical tools, basketball athleticism, size and his overall ability to just go get the football is top notch. Boykin still needs to avoid injuries that have slowed his progress on the field. Boykin also just needs more in-game seasoning which will come early this fall. Yet if your looking for an eyeball passer and a long and lanky kid with upside for the college level, I present to you Mr. Miles Boykin aka Football Player.

WR Cameron Green (6-foot-3, 175 pounds) Stevenson 2015- yet another two sports standout who brings his hoop skills and God given athletic skills to the football field and makes his transition from hoops to football seem effortless. Green is easily the best receiver prospect I've seen from the Northers burbs since Vernon Hills/Notre Dame standout Davaris Daniels. Green to me is a game experienced receiver who can make the tough catches and who also can break open a game with any single touch. Green will no question become a multiple offer kid who will be sought after nationally in the Class of 2015. I'm looking to see just how in football ready Green will be on Saturday. Green had an extended basketball season as the Patriots made it to the Class 4A state basketball title game.
