Rewind: Miles' Wednesday press conference

LSU didn't display its defensive depth in the victory against TCU last Saturday night at AT&T Stadum.

Excluding the personnel used in the nickel and dime packages, only a dozen players were used on defense for a sustained period of time by the Tigers in their 37-27 victory against the Horned Frogs.

The only position area in which a rotation was employed was end. Jermauria Rasco, Jordan Allen and Danielle Hunter split up snaps at the two defensive end positions. Rasco made five tackles, while Hunter was credited with four stops. Allen had one tackle.

Tackles Quentin Thomas and Chrsitian LaCouture were on the field for a few plays in relief of Ego Ferguson and Anthony Johnson. Lamar Louis was in for a couple of series at middle linebacker in relief of D.J. Welter in the second half. Louis registered no defensive statistics.

Three reserves saw action in the specialty packages - Micah Eugene as the nickel back, Dwayne Thomas as the dime back and Kendell Beckwith as an end in the dime package. Coach Les Miles had an explanation for not using a lot of players. TCU only ran 54 offensive plays.

"If there are a small number of plays, it is best to keep the very well trained guys on the field," said Miles at his post-practice press conference Wednesday. "If they play less snaps, there is no need to get them out. The young guys are getting ready. When they're ready, we'll get them to the field."

LSU practiced indoors Wednesday afternoon due to the rainy weather.

Zach Mettenberger sees the LSU offense clicking sooner

Here are some of Miles' statements from his press conference which lasted no more than ten minutes.

General statement: "It was a quality Wednesday practice. This football team wants to improve and that's what has to happen. It's about Saturday night in Tiger Stadium and being the best team we can be."

Injury situation: "Tahj Jones and Travis Dickson are still on track to play Saturday. Corey Thompson practiced (Wednesday)." Thompson has a shoulder injury.

Momentum from last week's offensive success: "This offense has the want to compete at a very high level. What happened last week is something they want to happen again."

Use of Anthony Jennings: "I would like to see Anthony get a couple of throws in and run the offense a little bit more. We wanted to get him earlier last week, but we didn't have the opportunity to do it."
