Our Savior Upend Powe, Oakland Tech

LEWES, Del. -- Our Savior New America rolled to an 81-51 victory over Oakland Tech on Monday afternoon in the fifth place game of the Slam Dunk to the Beach National Tournament.

Leading by just six at the half, the Pioneers outscored the Bulldogs 52-28 in the second half to win going away. Oumar Sylla, the 6-6 swingman bound for Valparaiso, was consistent for Our Savior, scoring 11 points in each stanza on the way to a 22 point, four assist effort.

After a slow start, 6-8 Juan Palacios recovered to finish with 16 points and seven rebounds, while 6-1 Walter Murray scored all 14 of his points in the decisive second half. Murray was particularly effective in scoring cheap buckets in transition as Oakland Tech's defense consistently broke down in the second half.

Leon Powe, Oakland Tech's rugged 6-6 senior power forward bound for California, ripped down 15 rebounds but managed just 11 points. Powe shot just four of 11 from the floor and just three of eight from the charity stripe.

Quentin Thomas, a 6-2 junior point guard who is widely regarded as one of the top prospects on the West Coast, tallied seven points and three assists for Oakland Tech.

Our Savior sot a robust 55 percent from the floor, including an incredible 75 percent clip in the second half. By contrast, the Bulldogs shot just 33 percent for the game.
