Trying it again
hyped over the then scheduled visit of Chinanu Onuaku. A 6'10" passing, shot blocking center that rebounds, Onuaku represented another opportunity in fans' minds for Georgetown to secure a big man, thereby rounding out an already exciting Class of 2014 recruiting haul. As most know, an official visit is an excellent opportunity to woo prospects, given the fact it's tantamount to an expense paid trip in which high schoolers spend several days within a program. This time last week the Hoya Nation was
Well, Onuaku cancelled the trip. On our Premium Court message board, rumors discussing the reason why were discussed. Click here for that thread.
According to Rivals.com Recruiting Analyst Eric Bossi and various media reports, Onuaku has rescheduled his visit and will tour Georgetown this weekend. In doing so he will not have far to go, given he attends Riverdale Baptist just outside Washington, DC.
Making this decision more interesting is the scuttlebutt that Onuaku, Rivals.com's 65th ranked Class of 2014 prospect with a four star designation has whittled his choice to between an AAC and ACC school. Premium Court has a discussion of that, including the colleges in question.
While they are not officially visiting Georgetown, a pair of additional Hoya Class of 2014 targets are doing so elsewhere this weekend.
As recently presented in More insight into Robinson's recruitment, Elbert Robinson will be in Columbus, Ohio, checking out Ohio State. Rivals has slotted Robinson at 51st nationally in the Class of 2014, and he's also a four star guy.
A pivot player with Lakeview Centennial (TX) standing over seven feet tall, Robinson also excels at rebounding and defense, though his back to the basket game is ahead of Onuaku's - Chinanu is a better midrange shooter. Both have received official scholarship offers from Coach John Thompson III.
Though he hasn't been tendered a Blue and Grey offer, forward Bonzie Colson has previously unofficially visited G'Town and garnered recruiting love from the school. A 6'5" 'tweaner' forward at St. Andrews (RI) that has excellent footwork, a great understanding of the game and skills that allow both in-the-paint work and face up attacks, Colson is set to tour long time suitor Notre Dame.
Of additional interest to DMV (District-Maryland-Virginia) hoops heads is that his father, Bonzie, Sr., is a DC guy with obvious ties to the city, including a familiarity with Thompson. Bonzie, Jr. has been tagged 141st amongst 2014 players, and holds a three star marking.
Check back in the near future for more on these and other G'Town recruiting prospects.
