LSU must play to its strengths

An open date permits a team to make some changes in both their offensive and defensive strategies.

However, don't look for LSU to make major adjustments from what it has done this season, particularly on offense.

Much emotion for LSU DT's Ego Ferguson and Anthony Johnson leading to Bama game

"You are who you are," said LSU coach Les Miles at his post-practice press conference Wednesday evening. "You can make some changes, but you still have to use your strengths.

"If you want to break your tendencies, it has to be with keeping your strengths in mind. You can change your formations, but you still have to put the ball in the hands of your best player. Here are the plays we run best."

Jeremy Hill thrives in face of adversity

Miles acknowledged that there has been more energy in the building this week which is normally the case for the Alabama game. But, Miles does see a different team on the practice field having had an open date last Saturday.

"We're faster," Miles said. "We are a little healthier. We needed the open date after nine straight weeks of playing football."

LSU defense can make statement at Alabama

Miles said that kicker Colby Delahouusaye appears to be fully recovered from his groin injury which caused him to be removed during the Furman game. Delahoussaye missed his first field goal attempt and first extra point attempt of the season against the Paladins.

"Colby's health has returned," Miles said. "When you have a bothersome groin, it is difficult to open your hips and kick the ball. Colby ran and kicked extremely well (Wednesday)."

Miles believes that his team is totally ready for Saturday's contest against the top-ranked Crimson Tide in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

''We know the likelihood of how they play," Miles said. "I'm sure they know the likelihood of how we play. We had a nice practice. It seems the game plan is accomplished. We will tune up Thursday and go to Tuscaloosa on Friday."
