Rivals250 OT Johnson picks the Noles
It was the worst kept secret, but Rivals250 offensive tackle Roderick Johnson is finally a Seminole.
He hinted that he might commit during his official visit in December, but the four-star prospect decided to wait until signing day to make his announcement. This morning at Missouri's Hazelwood Central High School, he declared he was headed to FSU and signed his letter of intent.
He last visited FSU in December and was accompanied by his father and brother. "The biggest highlight was being around the players again. I hung out with Cam Erving a lot and he told me what it was like there and how Coach (Rick) Trickett is as a coach and how he pushes you and how he loves playing for him," Johnson said following his official visit. "It was good being around guys you would be around with next year, so that was good. There's always something to do there in Tallahassee and my family liked it as well."
Johnson made an unofficial visit to FSU summer and stayed for three days. The extended stay gave him the opportunity to get to know the coaches on a personal level, in particular offensive line coach Rick Trickett.
"I don't think I've ever had a coach like him. I would have to take two of our coaches (at Hazelwood Central) to make one of him," said Johnson back in June. "The main thing is that he will prepare you for the next level and he will get you ready for the NFL."
The nation's No. 21 ranked offensive tackle picked FSU over his hometown team Missouri, Ohio State and Alabama. He is the No. 3 rated player in the state and No. 220 in the country.
Johnson joins three-star offensive tackle Derrick Kelly, who signed with FSU earlier today, giving FSU seven total offensive linemen signees (and one grey-shirt) for the 2014 recruiting class.
