Huskers have an 'in' with Louisiana safety

When you have a committed player already prepared to sign with your school it never hurts to see if he has any talented friends who may be interested in joining him, and thankfully for the Nebraska coaching staff, they have an in with safety Hunter Dale.

The John Curtis High School product is ranked as a four-star prospect and holds offers from well over a dozen schools, so the competition for Dale's signature is sure to be heated and many colleges have already tried getting in contact as much as possible.

"Oregon, Indiana, Nebraska obviously, Utah, Penn State, Ole Miss, Tennessee have all been talking with me," Dale said. "Pretty much has been everybody I've been talking to and keeping in contact with is in that group."

Holding a Nebraska offer has turned out to be a proud moment for Dale who says the Huskers definitely have a chance to grab his interest.

"The (Nebraska) coaches were saying they can't wait to come down and see me and they offered me," Dale said. "It was Coach (Charlton) Warren I was talking to. I was really excited about getting that offer. I really like those guys."

As for the "in" the Huskers have with Dale, it sits with their committed running back in the class of 2015.

"My friend, Kendall Bussey, is committed there and I plan on talking with him once I'm done with baseball," Dale said. "I don't know a ton about them yet but plan to get to know them better. Two alums from Curtis went there, too."

While Dale said it helps that former Huskers P.J. Smith and Walker Ashburn have been through the program, it will be Bussey who has the 5-foot-10 corner's ear.

"I've been playing with Kendall since I was in 7th grade," Dale said. "I've got to know him well over the years and he's just been telling me I need to visit Nebraska because it's so real out there."

And yes, Dale has thought about the possibility of playing at the next level with his friend.

"I've thought about that, yes," Dale said. "I've talked to a couple guys who have the same offers and we've talked about how cool it is to play against each other now but then play with each other at the next level, too."

While Dale is currently busy with his baseball schedule, he does have some trips planned and others he believes could be close to coming together down the road.

"I know I'm taking a visit to UCLA and I'm pretty sure I'll go to Miami," Dale said. "I'm also trying to go to Ole Miss and Tennessee. It would make sense to make a trip to Nebraska. If I put them in the top five and talk to their coaches more and talk to Kendall more I'll probably take that as an official."
