Texas still in the hunt for WR Early Doucet

Early Doucet, the nation’s fifth rated prospect by Rivals.com, has suitors from across the country in hot pursuit, and it’s pretty obvious why after watching him play for a few moments. Perhaps no prospect in the country is as fluid or elusive with the ball in their hands as is the 6-1, 207-pound Doucet and his incredible athleticism makes him a solid prospect at several positions.

On the recruiting front, Doucet still claims to be wide open, although he does want to narrow his list down to a top five by the time his senior season begins. Among the candidates to make the final cut for the ultra-talented prospect are Florida, Florida State, Miami, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee and USC.

“I’m just going to sit down with my family and talk it over with them. I’ve been evaluating the schools I’m interested in as far as where I’d stand if I were to go there. I already know a good bit about the schools,” said Doucet.

Of the schools that he’s considering, virtually every coaching staff has been sending him a steady wave of mail.

“Pretty much all of the schools have been sending me a lot of mail,” Doucet said. “Texas had stopped for a while but I just got another letter from coach (Michael) Haywood the other day.”

With five potential receivers already committed, many felt like the Longhorns were done recruiting the position but Doucet’s talents might be too much to pass up. Regardless of where he ends up, Doucet said he’ll step on campus ready to compete.

“That might be why they had stopped sending letters because they got some receivers already. But wherever I go, I’m going to take somebody’s spot so it doesn’t matter who they sign,” Doucet said. “I’m not being cocky, that’s just what my attitude is going to be wherever I go to college.”

The eyes of the nation will be on Doucet’s recruitment, but they may have to wait a while before getting the big news. The speedy wideout said he plans to take all five of his visits before making a decision.

“I want to see all of the schools and really make sure I make the right decision,” he said.
