Bright caps off impressive class

For a school that makes a habit of late runs on national signing day, Florida State outdid itself on Wednesday. Bobby Bowden's team put a nice helping of icing on the cake Wednesday night with the commitment of five-star defensive tackle Callahan Bright on ESPN News.

Last month, the top rated defensive tackle had narrowed his choices to FSU and Texas A&M but in the end liked the idea of playing his college ball in the Sunshine State.

"I just felt comfortable there," Bright said. "I just always dreamed about playing football in Florida."

Rivals.com rates the 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive lineman as the No. 14 overall prospect in the nation. That lofty ranking is the result of an impressive combination of size, strength and athleticism. He boasts a 600-pound squat and 385-pound bench and run the 40-yard dash in the 4.8 range. Last season he racked up 15 sacks, and in 2004 had nearly 10 sacks despite missing a few games.

With Bright's commitment, FSU solidified its place as one of the top five classes in the country.

With football season over, Bright is concentrating primarily on academics. He says he hopes to have his GPA at 2.5 by the time he graduates and is currently taking a prep course to prepare for the SAT and ACT.
