FSU finally offers Hornsby

Sandalwood wide receiver/safety Jamar Hornsby has been waiting for an offer from FSU and finally got it. But before Seminole fans get too excited, it's going to be an uphill battle to win the services of the Rivals100 member. At the present time, his top five includes Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, and USC. The 'Noles are up there, but have some work to do to become a major player.

"Instate schools always have a shot," Sandalwood Head Coach Adam Geiss said. "Bobby Bowden is a legend. He's the man, the best ever. But 18 year old kids are impressed when a head coach comes to visit. Urban Meyer came personally to offer this kid."

During Thursday's spring jamboree Hornsby blew up. On defense, he recorded six tackles, and on offense, picked up five catches and scored two touchdowns in two quarters of work. The Sandalwood standout is originally from Atlanta, which could give a nod to the Georgia schools, but if Geiss has his way, he'll stay in the Sunshine State.

"I'd like to see all my kids go where I can watch them every week," said Geiss. "FSU came to the school yesterday. Coach (Mark) McHale was here. I like him, he's old school, he's a great coach."

The problem facing FSU could be having too many receivers on the roster. Hornsby has made no bones about wanting to to play from day one when he steps foot on campus.

"If they sign two blue chip receivers, Rouse being one of them...you know, it's better to play," said Geiss. "This kid is a stud. He wants to play day one, he doesn't want to redshirt."

Last season the No. 2 rated player in the FloridaVarsity.com top 50 had over 120 tackles (11 for loss), 5 interceptions and 17 pass break-ups.
