It's official: State's top junior Clemson bound

[Talk about Korn's commitment with other Clemson fans]

Clemson has landed yet another big fish in the world of recruiting, this time from the state's No. 1 rated junior recruit, Duncan - James F. Byrnes quarterback Will Korn.

As first projected by Tigerillustrated.com back on July 10th in our War Room, Korn officially announced for Clemson at a noon press conference at Byrnes High moments ago.

"I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for coach Bentley. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than right here in Byrnes," said Korn. "I'd like to make my verbal commitment to Clemson University where I will wear orange and purple in two years. When I first moved here, I fell in love with Clemson after going to games with my father. They told me they wouldn't be going after another quarterback, so that was good for me."

"I want to thank my family for the tremendous support they have shown me, and I wouldn't be here if it weren't for them."

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound blue-chipper verbally committed to Clemson over a week ago, as reported by Tigerillustrated.com on Sunday, but waited until today to announce so that he could join fellow teammate and Georgia commit Prince Miller, Tigerillustrated.com's No. 7 prospect in-state this year.

Last season Korn guided the Rebels to another state championship, throwing for 31 touchdowns and nearly 3,000 yards.

The blue-chip signal-caller, who will be regarded by Rivals.com as one of the nation's top five dual-threat quarterbacks next spring, will also be a shoe-in for the Rivals 100, a listing of the nation's top 100 recruits regardless of position.

Korn, whose Clemson recruiter is Greenville native and inside linebackers coach David Blackwell, took three confirmed unofficial visits to Clemson over the last two months.

The Upstate star will be the only quarterback taken by Clemson in 2007, barring a career-ending injury to one of the existing scholarship quarterbacks.

It remains doubtful that Clemson will take another quarterback in the 2006 recruiting class.

Last week, as first reported by Tigerillustrated.com, Clemson passed on former Tennessee quarterback and would-be transfer Brent Schaeffer of Deerfield Beach, Fla.

Schaeffer was set to announce for Clemson, but was notified that his pledge would not be accepted due to the coaching staff moving in another direction.

Already in the 2006 class Clemson has its lone quarterback commitment from Greer - Riverside athlete Michael Wade (6-2, 190). Wade, who's set to debut with a three-star rating, impressed offensive coordinator Rob Spence at the Tommy Bowden Football Camp in June, and days later walked away with an offer. The Riverside star is Tigerillustrated.com's No. 1 rated quarterback in-state this season.

Korn is the highest rated quarterback recruit to commit to Clemson in the Tommy Bowden era.

Coming up: Later this afternoon (between 3-3:30pm) Tigerillustrated.com will have more coverage of Korn's announcement, including the press conference photo gallery, audio, and tomorrow we will be releasing video from today's press conference. Also additional coverage will follow later this afternoon.
