Taylor named Big 12 player of the week

A third Nebraska player earned Big 12 Conference Player-of-the-Week honors this season, as quarterback Zac Taylor was named Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Norman, Okla., native shattered several school single-game records during NU's 27-20 double-overtime victory over Iowa State Saturday, including pass completions (36), passing yards (431) and total offense (433). His 55 pass attempts tied the school record.

Taylor also connected on a pair of touchdown passes during the win to I-back Cory Ross, including the game winner on an eight-yard swing pass during the second overtime period.

Taylor joins teammates Bo Ruud and Sam Koch as Huskers to earn a conference award in 2005. Ruud won the Defensive Player of the Week honor following his performance against Maine, while Koch earned the Special Teams Player of the Week award for his efforts against Pittsburgh.

Taylor's honor is the first for a Nebraska offensive player since former Husker Josh Davis was tabbed following NU's 18-10 win over Penn State during the 2003 season.

A pair of Texas players, linebacker Aaron Harris and punt returner Aaron Ross, earned this week's respective Big 12 defensive and special teams awards.
