Carl Bonnell Commits to Washington State
Carl Bonnell, the 6-3, 194 lb quarterback out of Kentwood HS in Kent, WA called Realdawg.com to report that at 7:30 pm this evening, he gave his verbal commitment to coach Mike Price at Washington State.
"I know there were rumors going around that I had already committed but I just now did! I don't know where all that got started, maybe someone got wind that I had a really good time there last weekend and that I was close to committing."
Bonnell is a very versatile quarterback who has had more successes on the field in the three years he has started at Kentwood than many high school quarterbacks ever get to experience, leading his team all the way to the state championship game in 1999, then back to the state semi finals in 2000, and this year Bonnell plans to lead the Conquerors forward one more time before departing for a career on the field in Pullman, Wa, where he hopes to get a chance to redshirt.
"We don't really know yet if that will be the plan", Carl told us, "I will know a lot more once I have more time to really talk about some of those details with Coach Price this weekend." Carl is heading East this weekend for the Palouse in order to see the showdown between the Cougars and Oregon State at Martin Stadium.
"What really pushed me over the edge was being at the Cal game two weekends ago and seeing the crowd and the whole environment. This is definitely a college town and it has that atmosphere. I liked it and besides, my brother is there."
Carl's older brother is a walk on linebacker at Washington State and according to Carl, is definitely excited about the decision his kid brother has made along with his parents, "They're really excited about the idea of getting to be able to see us both play at the same time instead of one here and one there."
Carl had been watched closely by Washington as well, and told us that last week Rick Neuheisel explained the Husky's quarterback recruiting situation, "I think they're just taking one. And it sounds like they know who their number one guy is at this point."
Carl, however is Coach Price's number one guy and that's all that matters tonight as the high school senior sits back and can relax a bit now that this part of the process is over, "I just want to tell Cougar fans that they can get ready for some good football coming."
It's possible that this could be a year that will see both Washington and Washington State both sign in state quarterbacks.
We congratulate Carl, his family and appreciate the fact that he chose to share this news with Realdawg.com.
