Meet Major Wright

Call him Major Pain.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Saint Thomas Aquinas safety Major Wright is a member of the pre-evaluation Rivals100 and one look at his film tells you that his prowess in run support and habit of punishing the opposition is a big reason why.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Wright delivers hits with 100 percent effort, but he also is very fundamentally sound. Some big-hitters on the high school level have a habit of going for the big hit, not wrapping up and allowing ball carriers to get away. Not Wright, who is a stellar form tackler. Some college coaches who have seen him on film think he could very well be the hardest-hitting safety in the class of 2007.

Wright can play the pass, too. He racked up six interceptions to go along with 58 tackles during his junior season.

It's not in Wright's nature, however, to be satisfied.

"That part of my game, I have to work on," Wright said. "I have to work on getting better."

He also blocked a punt and credits STA special teams coach Tim Conrad with designing a play that worked.

"He designed a play where I go one way and another player goes another and it worked," Wright said.

As far as an early list of colleges goes, Wright is truly wide-open, though Florida, Florida State and Miami (Fla.) are likely going to be in the mix.

"I am looking for nice facilities, nice people and nice weather," Wright said

Wright played with an impressive group at STA during his junior season. Offensive linemen Sam Young, Marcus Lind, Daniel Wenger and Marcus Gilbert all were among the nation's best. Kicker Brett Swenson was a top five prospect at his position as well.

"It was pretty good playing with those guys," Wright said. "I learned a lot from them."

Wright grew up a New England Patriots fan. Interestingly enough, the Patriots recent success had little to do with why he likes the Pats.

"When I was growing up, my grandmother bought me a (Patriots) coat," Wright said. "I've just liked the team ever since."

Wright did not grow up a fan of any single college team.

In addition to being a pre-evaluation Rivals100 selection, Wright is a junior top 100 selection according to FlaVarsity.com. His junior year, Wright was a first-team all-state selection by the Florida Sportswriters Association.
