The madness of March is officially over at the Creek but conference all-academic teams for swimming and diving and gymnastics were announced last week.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the rules committee for football will look at a proposed video replay system in May that will utilize a coach's challenge.

In additional rules actions, artificial noisemakers will not be allowed at volleyball matches and a facility ceiling requirement of 25 feet will be enacted beginning in the 2006 season for newly-built facilities.




WSU

In men's hoop, sophomore Josh Akognon is transferring and guard Mac Hopson is joining the Cougars.

In baseball, Wazzu went 1-2 against Arizona State and lost to Gonzaga to move to 21-10 overall with a 3-3 record in conference play and an 80 RPI.

In track and field, sophomore distance runner Haley Paul ran the second-fastest 5000-meter time in school history [16:20.86] and was named as the CougZone Athlete of the Week.



Washington

Junior pitcher Tim Lincecum was named as the conference's pitcher of the week.


USC

Running back Hershel Dennis, who injured a hamstring last month, suffered a knee sprain this week in the third week of spring practice.


UCLA

In men's hoop, the Bruins defeated LSU then lost to Florida in the NCAA national championship game to finish their season at 32-7.


Oregon

Offensive lineman Jermaine Randolph will graduate in spring and not return for his senior season while kicker Luke Bellotti will not practice in spring and will return in autumn.


Oregon State

In baseball, the Beavers swept Texas Pan-American to move to 19-8 on the season and 1-2 in conference play with a 40 RPI.


Stanford

In baseball, Stanford went 1-2 against USC to move to 13-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play with a 21 RPI.


Arizona State

Receiver Terry Richardson was suspended for spring practice for an undisclosed team rules violation and quarterback Derek Shaw will transfer.

In men's hoop, the Sun Devils hired North Carolina State head coach Herb Sendek as the new head coach.


California

The second-ranked and defending national champion women's crew varsity eight took their fourth consecutive Whittier-Jessop trophy at the San Diego Crew Classic, defeating USC and WSU.


Arizona

In men's hoop, the Wildcats will play Illinois in Phoenix on December 2 as part of the inaugural Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge.
