Five on the rise in camp

The scheduled scrimmages throughout fall camp offer players their best chance prior to the season-opener to move up the depth chart. Gary Pinkel said he did anticipate making a few depth moves after Monday's scrimmage. PowerMizzou.com takes a look at five players who we think might be moving up.

Evander Hood: It appears pretty obvious that Ziggy has supplanted Jamar Smith atop the depth chart. It is a battle that will likely rage all season long, but Hood is most certainly fulfilling some of the expectations Tiger coaches have had for a year now.

Castine Bridges: This one isn't so much from anything Bridges did on Monday. Trenile Washington went down with a broken ankle, making Bridges the fourth corner right now.

Tommy Saunders: Saunders just continues to make play after play after play every time he is given the chance. With Brad Ekwerekwu out Saunders has already been working a lot with the first team. His play on Monday may have made him the Tigers' current number two and a safe bet to stay in the starting lineup even when Ek returns.

Chase Patton: He has looked better for most of fall camp and continued to play well on Monday. While the mistakes aren't completely gone (he had a pick or two dropped) they are way, way down. Patton not only has more potential and more eligibility remaining than Brandon Coleman, but to our eyes, he is playing better.

Kurtis Gregory: Don't rule out the possibility that Gregory will start the season opener. He threw a killer block that sprung William Franklin for a 34-yard touchdown. He is gaining more and more experience and if there is any chance that Tyler Luellen is not fully healthy, Gregory might be just as good.

The official depth chart should be released again on Tuesday afternoon according to Pinkel. There may not be a major shake-up, but don't be surprised if these guys have made a nice move on the charts.
