Kirkendoll has been one of the holdouts
James Kirkendoll. The four-star, Rivals250 member insists that he plans on taking a couple of official visits before pulling the trigger. Before the first game of the college football season has even begun, more than two-thirds of the top thirty prospects in the state of Texas have already made verbal commitments. One of the holdouts has been Round Rock (Tx.) wide receiver
Don't mistake his having not already made a commitment as him being lackadaisical about the process. At 5-foot-10, 178-pounds and sub 4.5 speed, he has had plenty of suitors and has been busy doing his homework on them.
He recently narrowed his list down to seven, before bringing it up to eight here in the last couple of weeks.
In his last update on Rivals.com he named his finalists as Florida, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Texas Tech. Now another program has entered the race.
"Nothing has changed much since the last time except I've been hearing from Michigan. It's the same seven plus Michigan."
As was the case in July, Kirkendoll remains open.
"Until I take some trips I'm not comfortable with naming a leader. It's early for me. I still haven't set any trips, but I know I'll definitely go to Nebraska and Florida in the next couple of months.
"After I take some trips I'll sort out who my leaders are."
As one of the few remaining uncommitted top level prospects in the Lone Star State, he can expect his phone to be ringing off the hook when the September 1st contact period begins.
"I'll probably be setting up my trips when the coaches start calling again. I'll them up around my football schedule. I'll look at depth charts and a place that makes me feel at home."
