Gauchos shoot down New Heights

Kemba Walker and Jordan Theodore are too much to handle for one team. They had 30 points a piece in the Gauchos Seniors victory over the New Heights Seniors, 103-93 in the second round of the I.S.8 playoffs.

The Gauchos dominated the scoreboard since the ball was tossed and took an early lead. New Heights fought back some, but Walker hit two three pointers in the last two minutes of the first, ending the quarter with a large lead of 29-17.

The jump shot god was cruel today as most players on both sides were off from 3-point-land most of the game except for Walker.

The Gauchos had a 20 point lead most of the game until Ashton Gibbs hit a few three's in the fourth quarter to bring the lead back to10. Gibbs', who had a quiet 41 points, attempt was futile as the Gauchos were too determined to make it to the semifinals.

Vanderbuilt bound Lance Goulbourne took many attempts, but didn't hit one three all game, but he still finished with 25 points. Goulbourne and Trinity Fields were at the lead of New Heights 10-5 run in the beginning of the second quarter to bring the lead down to 8 points, 34-27.

Goulbourne dominated the boards and started to clog up the lane, blocking shots. Meanwhile Fields was getting to the rack and threw a nice dish as he crossed Theodore on a drive.

That was the closest they got all game. Halfway through the second quarter the Gauchos called timeout and came out with a new attitude. New Heights went two minutes without scoring after that.

Theodore took his turn as he abused anyone standing in his path, spinning off of his opponents into a few of his signature reverse lay-ups. Walker hit another three with one second left in the half to give the Gauchos a 20 point lead, 55-35.

New Heights seemed ready for a comeback scoring two quick buckets to start the third, one including a Goulbourne alley-oop. However, that all stopped quickly as Theodore's penetration to the lane could not be stopped. When New Heights finally put a bigger player on Theodore, Walker started going to the lane.

The game seemed over as soon as the fourth quarter started. Gibbs three's in the fourth gave spectators hopes that New Heights would make it a good game, but it was a false hope as the Gauchos never let them get close enough to make a real run.
