North rally provides thrilling 16-15 win over South
If you quit watching the THSCA All-Star game on Tuesday because it looked like the South had a 15-0 lead well in hand late in the fourth quarter, you missed a thrilling North comeback with three scores, two on-side kick recoveries and a game-saving tackle.
A 41-yard field goal by Argyle's Ben Parks with thirty seconds left was the game-winner but it was late scoring drives led by quarterbacks Riley Dodge and Braden Smith that brought a lethargic North offense to life.
The North win overshadowed a stellar showing by Angleton's D.J. Monroe, who was a running back star even though he'll play defensive back at Texas. The 5-9, 165-pound Monroe blazed his way to a 66-yard TD run and had a 78-yard kickoff return following the go-ahead field goal. The South had a low snap and a 45-yard field goal attempt blocked with three seconds left.
