The 2008-09 season continues to close in on the Creek but before it begins, there are the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, where more than 225 athletes from Pac-10 schools will be competing.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit which will distribute $218 million to former student-athletes who should have received benefits during their eligibility. The fund will run through the 2012-13 season and, additionally, the NCAA will set up a $10 million fund to assist current and future student-athletes applying for benefits and educational expenses.





Arizona State

In football, receiver Kyle Williams and offensive lineman Thomas Altieri are both expected to miss at least a week after suffering concussions in practice.



Washington

In football, receiver Curtis Shaw has left the team due to personal reasons.



California

In women's golf, sophomore Joanie Lee will transfer from USC and be eligible in 2009.



Arizona

In softball, head coach Mike Candrea helped lead the USA to shutout victories over Venezuela and Australia in their first pair of games of the 2008 Olympics.




Oregon

In lacrosse, the Ducks were named to the top 50 teams in the country as part of the Division I academic squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association.



WSU

In football, sophomore receiver Jeshua Anderson will miss six to eight weeks with a hernia.



UCLA

In football, projected starting quarterback Ben Olson is out at least eight weeks with a broken bone in his foot.



Oregon State

In men's hoop, forward Sean Carter has transferred to Massachusetts.



Stanford

In wrestling, assistant coach Jason Borrelli was named as the head coach.



USC

In football, Trojan recruit Maurice Simmons was found guilty of two felonies in connection with a robbery and is not expected to be admitted to the university.

In men's hoop, point guard Angelo Johnson has left the team.
