Louisville loses two more starters to injury

An already thin Louisville roster suffered two more season-ending injuries to starters, according to coach Steve Kragthorpe Monday.

Starting cornerback Woodny Turenne suffered a broken clavicle while intercepting a pass during Saturday's 28-20 loss to Cincinnati, and starting guard Mark Wetterer will miss the next three months after having surgery to repair a torn PCL.

Turenne, a former five-star junior college recruit, started every game this season, and led the Big East with five interceptions. He was, without a doubt, Louisville's top defensive back.

"Woodny broke his clavicle, ironically on play he intercepted the ball," Kragthorpe said. "He just kind of got planted into the turf as he dove to intercept the pass. It was a clean one break, no surgery required, and hopefully he'll be back in four to five weeks. He could be back for a bowl game."

Wetterer started the first two games of the season, then was out for the Kansas State game before returning to start the Connecticut, Memphis and Middle Tennessee games. He was out again for the Cards games against South Florida and Syracuse, but returned to make another start against Pittsburgh. He missed all of the Cincinnati game Saturday after having surgery earlier in the week to repair a torn knee ligament.

"Offensive lineman Mark Wetterer is out for the season with a knee injury," Kragthorpe said. "He had surgery on his posterier cruciate ligament last week. It's a three-month recovery, but he should return for spring practice. He's been battling with it for about four to five weeks, and it just got to the point where it felt like he might injure himself more if he continued to go."

In addition to Turenne and Wetterer, the Cardinals have also seen two starting safeties - Richard Raglin and Latarrius Thomas, and starting wide receiver Scott Long go out with injuries.
