Jones not sweating pick
Jarvis Jones has a lot of honor because he said he's not sweating recruiting and is in no rush to make any decision.SAN ANTONIO - If patience is a virtue then Columbus (Ga.) Carver linebacker
Visits to Southern Cal and Georgia are in the books. Jones, a four-star linebacker playing with the East squad here at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, will visit Florida, Texas and LSU in consecutive weeks in January and plans to announce his decision on National Signing Day in February.
"I'm taking my time to make my decision, to make the best decision for me," Jones said. "I don't really know where I'm leaning right now. I still have three more visits so I have a lot of time to talk to my family and decide which school I want to go to.
"A lot of kids say they get tired of the drama but I am laid back and I'm taking it all in stride. It doesn't bother me a lot so I'm taking my time to make the best decision possible."
Rivals.com rates Jones, who had 147 tackles in his junior year, as the third-best outside linebacker in the 2009 class behind five-star Jelani Jenkins, who remains uncommitted, and Stanford pledge Shayne Skov, who's also playing in the Army game.
Jones, who had five interceptions this season, is the top player in Georgia and the No. 45 prospect in the Rivals 100. In the 'best athlete' category among linebackers, Jones is No. 2 behind Skov.
"Nobody has the lead," Jones said. "On Signing Day, we'll find out when I break down all the schools and find out where I'm going."
He told Rivals AMP on Sunday Florida was his "favorite school" even without football in the equation and there is speculation the Gators are in good shape but Jones, who has been to at least one game in Gainesville this season, did not give any clue which way he was leaning during another interview Sunday.
"Coach (Urban) Meyer is a good coach and they have other great coaches down there," Jones said.
"Florida has a great school. It's a great program down there Everybody has said I have the ability to play all three (linebacker spots). I have the size to play all three and the speed. Wherever I can step in and play early that's what I'll do."
