Franklin's Four Touchdowns Pace Everman Rout
EVERMAN- After a rough start to the 2009 season in Waxhachie, the Everman Bulldogs (1-1) got off to a rocky start on Friday but managed to get things together in a dominant 62-29 win over the Wichita Falls Coyotes (0-2) at Marr Stadium. After allowing the opening kickoff to be returned to near midfield, WFHS jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead as Eddie Aboussie scored on a four yard run.
It appeared the lead would grow even bigger as the Everman special teams once again allowed a big play as Old High recovered an onside kick. The Bulldogs defense however rose to the occasion and forced a Coyotes punt and the tide finally turned for EHS. Everman scored on a quick four play drive asCory Franklin from 25 yards out to tie it up at seven.
WFHS again got a solid kickoff return to set themselves up in solid field position however Everman DB Barry Browning would end the drive with an interception and 25 yard return of QB T.J. Anderson. Everman would quickly go up by seven on a Shawn Sanders one yard scoring run. The ensuing kickoff however would show the Everman special teams are still far from special as WFHS' Devontay Chaffin put on display his outstanding speed returning the kickoff 91 yards to paydirt tying things up at 14.
Everman before the end of the first quarter would answer as Franklin notched his second of what would be four touchdowns this time from four yards out to make it 20-14 EHS after one quarter of play.
The second quarter is when Everman put the game out of reach as the Bulldogs defense made a huge play up by just six points. On a fourth and one from their own 41 Wichita Falls elected to take a gamble and go for it but Aboussie was stopped in the backfield by sophomore DE Lincoln Richard for a two year loss. After that play the Bulldogs defense held WFHS to three consecutive three and outs. Everman would score three times in the quarter as Franklin scored from 49 yards out, Fletcher scored from one yard out and QB Robert Davis scored from 12 yards out right before the half to extend the lead to 41-14 at the half. Everman wound up with an amazing 373 rushing yards in the first half and scoring on six of seven possessions.
In the second half both teams rotated players in and out but the game was put out of reach on Franklin's fourth score of the night on another four yard run to make it 48-14. Franklin would end the night as one of three 100 yard rushers for Everman leading the way with 158 yards. Chaffin would strike again for WFHS in the third scoring on a sensational 45 yard toss from Anderson. In a backup role Everman's Kwasi Bradford scored twice in the fourth quarter for the final margin of 62-29. Next week Everman hosts Fort Worth Southwest, while Wichita Falls visits Munson Stadium to take on Denison who was upset Friday night by Big Spring.
