The Warhawks were facing long odds against Arizona State, and the game's opening play didn't help their cause.  ASU ran back the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, and rode that momentum to a 38-14 victory.

"Overall, the kicking game was a big difference in the game," ULM coach Charlie Weatherbie said. "We drove the football down there offensively but threw an interception, which killed the opportunity.

"We gave the defense a short field the whole first half. Arizona State is a good football team, and I believe we are a better team than we showed tonight."
