Alabama, LSU top new AP top 25 poll

The SEC showdown Nov. 9 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., was already setting up in epic fashion once again.

But, according to Sunday's new AP top 25, the annual battle between Alabama and LSU may match the nation's top teams once again.

The No. 2 Tigers (6-0) climbed three spots after this week's 42-28 defeat of previously undefeated Florida (6-1), who fell to No. 9.

The Crimson Tide (6-0) top the list for the third straight week, including 30 first-place votes.

Clemson (6-0) and Ohio State (6-0) dropped on spot each to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while Georgia (5-1) fell from a third-place tie with the Buckeyes to No. 10 after losing in overtime to unranked South Carolina.

LSU also edged both teams in first-place votes with 12, compared to Clemson's and Ohio State's 11 and nine, respectively.

Oklahoma (6-0) moved up one spot to No. 5, following its 34-27 defeat of rival Texas (4-2), who fell to No. 15.

No. 6 Wisconsin (6-0), No. 7 Penn State (6-0) and No. 8 Notre Dame (6-0) each moved up two spots.

And Auburn (5-1) climbed to No. 11, two weeks ahead of its upcoming road trip to Baton Rouge.

Missouri (5-1) meanwhile joined the top 25 at No. 22 to give the SEC six representatives.

This week marks the 29th time the league has claimed the top two positions in the AP poll.

Tulane (5-1) earned the 26th-most votes.
