Devin White has a convincing recruiting pitch for LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. — Devin White may or may not be playing in his final game on Jan. 1 against UCF in the Fiesta Bowl.

Until then, he is playing the role of host for official visitors at LSU and is potentially recruiting his successor to Baton Rouge.

During media availability on Tuesday, the Butkus Award winner unveiled a convincing recruiting pitch about why prospective recruits should not hesitate to play at LSU.

“My message to them is to tell them the truth,” White said. “I give them the floor to ask me any questions. I was once a recruit and I had a lot of things I wanted to know. I tell them what to expect, what I’m getting out of it. I host linebackers, so I tell them this is who you’ll be working with, this is who’s going to help you do this, and if they choose not to come then they don’t want to be great.

“If you look at the linebackers that have had success here and in the NFL, with a degree and stuff, it’s probably one of the best schools in the world to get a degree from. They give you the whole layout. We’re doing everything right. We had a good season and it could’ve been better. We have a new facility coming along. We just got a new weight room. It’s the top of the top, the best of the best. Jack (Marucci) and Michelle are the best training staff. Jack’s in the locker room now talking to players. You don’t get that everywhere. This is the place to be.”

LSU and White played host to 5-star linebacker Nakobe Dean this past weekend. Dean is planning to announce between LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss, among others, on Dec. 19.
