Hudson ready to commit

There's no disputing where prep school swingman Cornelius Hudson has always wanted to go to school and play his college basketball.

Through his diligence in the class room Hudson may actually make attending LSU and playing basketball there a reality if he continues on his current academic path.

"That's where I've been wanting to go and been striving to go since I was little," Hudson said. "I don't know why but they've had a good program. I love LSU's football team and Les Miles. I met him a long time ago and have liked him ever since."

Although no offer has been extended Hudson, a 6-foot-6, 185-pounder, expects LSU to offer in the coming weeks, possibly during an official visit next month. He may visit the weekend of Oct. 12 when the Tigers host Florida at Tiger Stadium.

"I think they're going to offer on my visit and I'll commit on the visit," Hudson said. "If they offer before, I'll say I'll commit. I like the way Coach McCray does things."

Hudson is a native of Dallas, who began his high school career at DeSoto before his family moved to Mansfield. He attended Timberview High - the same school as current LSU football commitment Ed Paris Jr. - where he started for two seasons.

Hudson earned second team all-district honors last season, averaging 14 points and leading the team with eight rebounds for a team that finished 20-8 but did not participate in postseason play.

The opportunity to attend Atlanta Sports Academy provided Hudson with the chance to rectify his academic situation. Thus far he's achieved a satisfactory ACT score and is still working toward a requisite core grade point average in order to meet NCAA entrance requirements.

"I've had a lot of D1s looking at me but they were waiting on me to get my grades," Hudson said. "But I like LSU a lot. I think I can fit in there. I just have to get bigger, stronger and just be myself."

Besides Paris, LSU has another unofficial recruiter pushing the virtues of the school and its basketball program in current freshman forward Jordan Mickey of Arlington, Texas.

Hudson enjoyed a successful AAU career with the Dallas Mustangs and most recently took part in the Fab 48 tournament in Las Vegas with the Mo Williams Elite.

Hudson said it was during one of his AAU trips through Louisiana where he was able see LSU's campus first hand, something he did again last year on his way to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.

The reason Hudson was able to take in the NFL's crowning achievement was to watch his older brother - wide receiver Michael Crabtree of the San Francisco 49ers - play on the ultimate stage in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against the Baltimore Ravens.

"He's been with me all my life," Hudson said of Crabtree, who starred in college at Texas Tech. "Growing up without a father he was there every day. He's the one that taught me everything I know. In recruiting the coaches call him first. I'm thankful he was there for me. He just said wherever I go he'll be proud of me. He just wants me to work hard."
