LSU Is High on Holbert’s Short List

Athlete David Holbert of the Brentwood Academy in Tennessee is rated as the nation’s No. 2 fullback according to Rivals.com but more than a few schools including his high school coach believe his future is as a linebacker.
“I’m not sure which position I want to play, I don’t know,” Holbert said. “I’m just going to leave it to God and he will lead me to the right place.

“Right now I am much better on the offensive side of the ball. I have a lot of work to do on the defensive side of things but I am willing to work. Some coaches say I’m better on offense, some day defense.”
LSU head coach Nick Saban traveled to Brentwood during the May evaluation period and the Tiger coach thought that he would be best suited at the linebacker position.
Holbert stands at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds and he runs a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash. He led Brentwood Academy to a runner-up finish in the Division II Class AAA state championship with over 800 yards rushing. He was named to the All-Region team.
LSU defensive backs coach Tim Walton is recruiting the Rivals.com four-star athlete for the Tiger staff.
“I gave him a call a few weeks ago to see what was up,” Holbert said. “
The Tennessee blue-chipper was asked if LSU, Tennessee and Wisconsin were still his early favorites and he said, “It’s still about the same and I don’t think it will change until after I take my visits.”
Holbert projects as a full academic qualifier with a 2.7 grade point average and a posted a score of 21 on the ACT.
