LSU vs. Alabama: A few quick history facts, game notes

LSU (3-4) will host No. 1 Alabama (8-0) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT.

The Tigers are coming off a 20-7 loss to No. 5 Texas A&M last week in College Station. The Crimson Tide defeated No. 22 Auburn, 42-13, last weekend.

Here are a few quick history facts and game notes about the Tigers and Crimson Tide:

-- LSU is 26-53-5 all-time against Alabama. Last year, LSU beat the Crimson Tide, 46-41, in Tuscaloosa on its way to a 15-0 record and the National Championship.

-- When the Tigers line up against Alabama and Nick Saban on Saturday, it will mark the 17th time in LSU football history that a former LSU head coach will be on the opposing sidelines as head coach of the other team. LSU is 6-10 in those games.

-- When an opponent is ranked No. 1 in the Coaches Poll, the Tigers are 3-12 with their last win coming against Alabama last season, 46-41.

-- Saturday will mark the eighth time LSU will face a No. 1-AP Poll ranked Alabama team and the ninth time when Alabama is the No. 1 team in the Coaches Poll.

-- Alabama was also No. 1 in the nation in games against LSU in 1979 (lost, 3-0); 2008 (lost, 27-21 in OT); 2012 (lost, 21-17), 2013 (lost, 38-17) and 2016 (lost, 10-0).
