Martin to participate in McDonalds game

CHICAGO, Ill. - LSU men's basketball signee Jarell Martin adds his name to a distinguished list of future Tigers who have participated in the McDonald's All-American basketball game that is set for Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. at the United Center in a game televised on ESPN.
Martin, who at the start of the week was named the 2013 Farm Bureau/Mr. Basketball recipient as chosen by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, becomes the 15th McDonald's selection who would play basketball for LSU during their careers.

The 6-9 Martin has helped make a name for his Madison Prep Chargers leading them to a semifinal playoff berth in 2012 and the school's first state title in Class B last month.
Martin posted averages of 26.3 points, 14.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 4.1 blocked shots to win the Mr. Basketball honor. He has turned into one of the nation's top 20 prospects despite playing just two years of high school basketball.
"I try to work hard to get better every day," Martin said after being named Mr. Basketball. "There are things I know I can still improve on, like handling the ball and defense. Getting awards is nice, but winning with my team is the main goal."
Martin will play for the West squad in the McDonald's game and will be part of a game that has a decided Southeastern Conference flavor. Four of his teammates are signed by Kentucky and one by Arkansas while the East squad will have two more Kentucky signees and two Florida signees.
Martin signed with the Tigers in November 2012 during the early signing period.
He is the first Baton Rouge native since Glen Davis who was selected in 2004 to play in the game with Tasmin Mitchell of Denham Springs selected the next year in 2005. The last Louisiana native to be selected for the game prior to Martin was in 2008. Martin will become the second LSU signee in three years to play in the game following Johnny O'Bryant III who played in the contest in 2011.
