McDuffy waiting on offers

There was no denying the fact for Evangel Christian Academy cornerback Dionte McDuffy.
When some of the nation's top programs came through the school's Shreveport campus in the fall to take a look at the Eagles and in particular defensive linemen Brandon Jackson and Jermauria Rasco they were also able to catch a glimpse of a promising defensive back at the same time.

That Jackson wound up signing with Texas A&M last month and Rasco continues to draw attention from some of the country's top programs such as LSU, Texas, Alabama and USC one of the direct beneficiaries of such attention has been McDuffy, who reports no offers at this time but the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder has made the rounds at a handful of Junior Days.
"It helps a lot when people come look at him and then they get a chance to take a look at me," McDuffy said of Rasco. "I think that's how I've gotten some of my interest."
McDuffy accompanied Rasco to Junior Days at both Texas and Alabama and has an invitation to a similar event at LSU, which is also holding it in conjunction with its annual spring game, but is uncertain whether he'll be able to attend because a scheduled ACT prep test.
"I like all the Junior Days I've been to," McDuffy said. "I received an invitation to LSU but I don't know if I'll be able to make it. I'm going to have to discuss it with my mother but it's the same day as the (prep) test and I don't have anything scheduled after that."
McDuffy enjoyed a solid season with 46 tackles, two interceptions and a blocked field goal in Evangel's run to the school's 12th state championship. The Eagles, who won 14 straight games following a season-opening loss to Shiloh Christian, knocked off defending Class 2A champion John Curtis 18-13 with a superb defensive effort that limited the Patriots to 247 total yards with 67 of that coming in the air.
"(Defensive coordinator) Coach (Byron) Dawson's going to make sure the defense is playing hard and we work on that every day," McDuffy said. "The game in the dome was the best defensive game we had this year."
With no unofficial visits on the horizon McDuffy said that his summer could prove to be the defining moment when it comes to earning scholarship offers.
"I'm supposed to go to Alabama's camp if it doesn't conflict with my 7-on-7," McDuffy said. "If there are other camps out there that I can make like LSU or somebody, then I'll and make those."
