National awards to Miles, Mathieu and Claiborne
Three individuals representing the LSU football program captured top awards for the Southeastern Conference.

Les Miles was named the SEC Coach of the Year by his peers. Tyrann Mathieu was selected the SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press, while Morris Claiborne received the same award from the league's coaches.
On Thursday night at Disney World, the same trio was recognized as national award winners.
Miles was chosen the Home Depot Coach of the Year. Miles led the Tigers to a 13-0 record en route to an appearance in the national championship game. Miles was the first SEC coach to win a national award since Auburn's Tommy Tuberville in 2004.
Three other Tigers coaches have won national awards - Paul Dietzel in 1958, Jerry Stovall in 1982 and Nick Saban in 2003. The teams coached by Dietzel and Saban won national titles.
Mathieu was picked the winner of the Chuck Bednarik Trophy, which goes to the best defensive player in the country. Mathieu leads LSU in tackles with 70. He is No. 1 in the SEC in forced fumbles with six and fumble recoveries with five. Mathieu has returned two fumbles for touchdowns.
Mathieu, who intercepted two passes and broke up seven passes, was the second straight LSU player to win this award. Patrick Peterson won the Bednarik Trophy last season. The only other SEC player to win this trophy was Georgia's David Pollack in 2004.
Claiborne was selected the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the best defensive back in the country. Claiborne has six pass interceptions and six pass breakups to go along with his 46 tackles. Claiborne has 173 interception return yards - tops in the country.
Claiborne was the second straight LSU player to win this award. Peterson also won the Thorpe Award in 2010. Four other SEC players have been Thorpe Award winners - Alabama's Antonio Langham in 1993, Florida's Lawrence Wright in 1996, Auburn's Carlos Rogers in 2004 and Tennessee's Eric Berry in 2009.
