Rewind: Alabama 90, LSU 72

Five Alabama players scored in double figures as the Crimson Tide handed LSU its 13th consecutive loss 90-72 in a Southeastern Conference game at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa on Saturday afternoon.

TURNING POINT OF GAME

A basket by Duop Reath put LSU three points behind Alabama at 16-13 with 14:26 remaining in the first half. In less than a minute, Riley Norris knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Tide ahead by nine points. LSU came no closer than nine points the rest of the game.

KEY STRETCH OF GAME

A field goal and a three-point play by Skylar Mays enabled the Tigers to trail by ten points at 42-32 with 2:27 before halftime. However, LSU went scoreless the rest of the first half. Meanwhile, Alabama scored nine points – seven by Ar’Mond Davis. During that stretch, the Tigers committed three turnovers and missed two field goal attempts and one free throw attempt.

LSU’S PLAYER OF THE GAME

Despite sitting out more than 13 minutes in the first half, Antonio Blakeney finished with 28 points. Blakeney, who made his first eight field goal attempts, finished 9-of-14 from the field and 8-of 12 at the foul line. Blakeney was 2-of-3 on his 3-point shots. Blakeney has scored 109 points in the past four games. He is 39-of-66 (59 percent) from the field in that span.

KEY TEAM STATISTICS

Alabama shot 53 percent from the field (32-of-60), including 40 percent on 3-pointers (10-of-25). LSU made 48 percent of its field goal attempts (26-of-54), including 31 percent on 3-pointers (4-of-13). . .The Tigers committed 15 turnovers which resulted in 21 Crimson Tide points. Alabama was guilty of only ten turnovers. . .LSU was outrebounded 33-28. . .The Crimson Tide bench had 34 points – 20 more than the Tigers reserves. . .Alabama had 20 assists on its 32 made baskets.

LSU’s starting lineup consisted of Reath and Aaron Epps in the post, Blakeney and Sampson on the wings and Mays at point guard. . . Epps did very little in his return to the starting lineup. Epps, who played 17 minutes, accounted for two points and three rebounds. . .Sims did not miss a shot. He was 3-of-3 from the field and 4-of-4 at the foul line. . .Sampson scored in double figures, but again shot poorly. He missed six of his nine field goal attempts. Sampson also committed five of the Tigers’ 15 turnovers. . .Reath made six of his ten field goal attempts, but he grabbed just two rebounds. . .Mays contributed only five points and four assists. He was guilty of three turnovers. . .Both Kieran Hayward and Brandon Eddlestone were scoreless in 12 minutes. Eddlestone had a career-high six rebounds. . .Jalyn Patterson was on the floor for only four minutes. . .Olaniyan, who had 11 points and 16 rebounds, was averaging three points and six rebounds per game prior to Saturday. . .Alabama matched its season-high with 90 points. The Tide scored 90 points in its four-overtime victory at South Carolina. Alabama had not scored 90 points in regulation against a SEC team in eight years. . .The Crimson Tide was averaging 69 points per game going into Saturday’s game. . .The 51 first-half points were a season-high for Alabama.
