Rewind: Arkansas 8, LSU 3

Ryne Stanek threw six-plus innings of shutout ball and Jake Wise drove in four runs as Arkansas ended LSU's winning streak at 15 games with an 8-3 victory against Arkansas on Saturday night at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

HOW THEY SCORED

Arkansas fourth inning - Brian Anderson walked and Dominic Ficociello singled. After Eric Fisher struck out, Wise hit a home run over the left centerfield fence. After Willie Schwanke struck out, Brett McAfee and Jacob Mahan singled. Tyler Spoon singled home McAfee. ARKANSAS 4, LSU 0

Arkansas fifth inning - Anderson and Ficociello singled. After Fisher popped out to second, Wise drove home Anderson with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. ARKANSAS 5, LSU 0

Arkansas seventh inning - Ficociello was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt by Fisher, walks to Wise and Schwanke loaded the bases. Ficociello scored on a walk to McAfee. Mahan doubled home Wise and Schwanke. ARKANSAS 8, LSU 0

LSU ninth inning - Mason Katz singled, Alex Edward walked and Chris Chinea singled to load the bases. Chris Sciambra singled home pinch-runner Jared Foster and Edward. After Michael Barash struck out, Sean McMullen walked. Chinea scored on a wild pitch by Michael Gunn. ARKANSAS 8, LSU 3

LSU WASTED SCORING CHANCES

First inning - With one out, Mark Laird singled. After Alex Bregman struck out, Laird stole second. Raph Rhymes struck out to end the inning.

Second inning - Katz walked. After Christian Ibarra flied out to leftfield, JaCoby Jones singled. Katz was thrown out trying to advance to third base on Jones' hit. Jones moved to second on the play at third. Andrew Stevenson grounded out to shortstop.

Fourth inning - With one out, Rhymes singled. After Katz popped out to second, Ibarra reached on an error by the third baseman Mahan. Jones struck out to leave two runners stranded.

Seventh inning - Ibarra walked. After Jones flied out to rightfield, Tyler Moore walked. Ty Ross lined out to second and McMullen grounded out to second base.

LSU HITTING STAR

Rhymes was the only Tigers player to have more than one hit. Rhymes, who was 0-for-5 in the series opener, had singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Rhymes has hit safely in seven of LSU's past eight games.

LSU STARTING PITCHER

Ryan Eades had his first rough outing of the season. Eades, who had allowed more than one run in just one of his first eight starts, gave up five runs in four-plus innings Saturday. Eades, whose record is 7-1, held Arkansas scoreless in the first three innings. The Hogs scored four times in the fourth with three coming home on Wise's second homer of the season. Eades was replaced after giving up back-to-back singles to start the fifth. The Razorbacks got eight hits off Eades, who walked three and struck out five.

LSU BULLPEN

Of the four Tigers relievers, only Kurt McCune did his job. McCune threw a scoreless eighth inning in which he gave one hit and struck out one. Nick Rumbelow let one inherited runner score in the fifth. In two innings, Rumbelow gave up two hits and struck out one. Will LaMarche retired just one of five batters in the seventh. He hit one batter and walked three. The one out came on a sacrifice bunt. Nate Fury, who relieved LaMarche, gave up a two-run double by Mahan.

NOTES

Stanek held LSU scoreless for 6.2 innings. He walked three and struck out five. The Tigers had just four runners in scoring position while Stanek was pitching. . .LSU had seven hits, but five of its starters went hitless - McMullen, Bregman, Ibarra, Stevenson and Ross. . .Chinea and Sciambra came off the bench to collect singles. Sciambra's hit in the ninth drove in two runs. . .McMullen (six games), Bregman (23 games) and Ibarra (five games) had their hitting streaks end. . .Katz, who was 1-for-3, now has a 16-game hitting streak. Jones, who was also 1-for-3, has a hit in seven consecutive games. . .For the second straight night, the Tigers were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position. . .Reliever Landon Simpson was charged with the three ninth-inning LSU runs. . .Ficociello had three of Arkansas' 12 hits. Mahan and Spoon each had two hits. . .LSU is 33-3 overall and 12-2 in the SEC. Arkansas is 25-11 overall and 9-5 in the SEC. The Tigers fell one game behind first-place Vanderbilt in the SEC standings. The Commodores defeated Missouri 12-1 on Saturday. LSU has a three-game lead over Arkansas in the SEC West.

"It just wasn't our night tonight. We hit the ball hard early and we had some tough breaks. But, you have to credit Arkansas for playing well and winning the game. Over the course of 56 games, you're going to have nights like this. We just have to shake it off, regroup and come back here tomorrow ready to try to win this series.

(on Eades' performance) "Ryan has been almost perfect for us all season with a 7-0 record and a very low ERA. He just had a tough outing. Arkansas is a top-ten team for a reason. They have great players and they executed very well tonight."

NEXT UP

LSU will play Arkansas at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the rubber game of the series. Cody Glenn (5-1, 3.12 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Tigers.
