Shareef O'Neal will be following in his dad's footsteps after all. Shaquille O'Neal's eldest son will be transferring to LSU, according to Sports Illustrated.

"Real big footsteps," the UCLA transfer forward said, adding, "but I'm ready for it. Great program. Louisiana is a different scene. I've been in LA most of my life, but I'm ready for it."

O'Neal took an official visit to Baton Rouge during the last week of January.

The 6-foot-9 O'Neal sat out his freshman season at UCLA after being diagnosed with anomalous coronary artery, a heart condition which required open-heart surgery. He was cleared to return to the court in March 2019.

He played a backup role for the Bruins upon returning. He averaged 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 10.2 minutes off the bench.

O'Neal announced his decision to leave UCLA on Twitter in January.

“My parents have always taught me that transparency is the best form of communication,” O’Neal wrote. “It is in this spirit that I announced today my departure from the University of California Los Angeles.

“A part of my heart will always be at UCLA figuratively and literally,” O’Neal wrote. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter, wherever that may be.”

He was a four-star coming out of high school.
