Still solid to LSU

Olive Branch, Mississippi cornerback Jalen Collins committed to LSU over the summer and for the most part other colleges have respected his decision and kept their distance. The near four-star prospect spoke with TigerBait.com this week about how his season is going as well as his recent trip to LSU.

Until just a couple of weeks ago the 6-foot-2, 180-pound cornerback had never been to a college football game in person. Needless to say, the LSU-Tennessee game is one he will remember for the rest of his life.

It was an unofficial visit for Collins, who had the opportunity to speak to the coaches before and after the game, as well as the chance to go into the locker room to interact with the players after the exhilarating and shocking victory.

"It was real fun. It was a whole lot of fun," Collins recalled. "I wasn't really sure what to expect because I had never been to a college game but I loved it.

"I couldn't believe what was going on at the end. Everything was happening so fast. I was pretty shocked when I thought they had lost, but when I got home I watched it and I was like, 'Yeah,' and I saw what had happened."

Collins said he has not been in contact with coaches from other schools recently, and he remains solidly committed to LSU. The three-star prospect is already thinking about one or more return trips to Baton Rouge.

"I was planning on going to the LSU-Alabama game and if I get a chance I'll probably make it down to another game before then," Collins explained.

Olive Branch has had a tough season so far but it's not so much because the school isn't playing well. The level of competition they have faced is very high and they are working hard to finish the season strong.

"We're doing pretty good," Collins said. "We're playing the hardest schedule we've played in a while and we're 3-4. I've been pretty much just playing corner. I'm getting in a little bit on offense at wide receiver but not too much. In the first game they threw my way but then we got to some of the harder teams on our schedule and they started going to the other side more."

Collins is ranked the No. 40 corner in the nation and the No. 11 overall prospect in Mississippi according to Rivals.com.
