The scholarship offer Upchurch was committing to has been in his possession for quite some time.
"They offered me my sophomore year and after the tour, I just knew to commit," Upchurch said. "What made me choose LSU was the academic program which is the best."
Upchurch is listed by many media outlets as being in the 200-pound range but he tells TigerBait.com that he is currently 6-foot-1 and 221 pounds.
Wide receiver is a big need for LSU for the 2014 recruiting year and Upchurch is the first prospect at that position to give his pledge.
Fellow commitment, athlete Devin Voorhies of Woodville, Miss., has indicated he may play receiver for the Tigers.
Upchurch is the seventh prospect for 2014 to give LSU his verbal commitment.
When asked what his 40-yard dash time was, Upchurch stated, "4.5".
LSU wide receivers coach Adam Henry is recruiting Upchurch for the Tiger staff.
"He (Henry) says you have to work hard at everything you do and motivate things," Upchurch said.
