Ticket prices skyrocket

Just how hot a ticket is Saturday's substantial showdown between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.?
Judging from the demand for tickets the prices those ducats are commanding should provide all the insight into the game's enormity according to secondary online ticket markets.
According to online ticket search site SeatGeek, LSU-Alabama tickets purchased within the last week have sold for an average of $606. That figure is over $200 more than the average price of LSU-Alabama tickets purchased in early September, and a whopping 1,100 percent higher than the average face value of Alabama football tickets ($55).
Listings on SeatGeek have ranged as high a $7,706 for a seat in the lower portion of the South End Zone section at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
"Average prices for tickets to this weekend's games are the highest we've seen for any in college football this year," said Will Flaherty, Director of Communications at SeatGeek. "With the winner of Saturday's game in the driver's seat to both the SEC and BCS title games, fans do not want to miss out on the chance to see these two teams in person."
The only college football matchup within the past two years to exceed this level of demand was last year's BCS National Championship game between Auburn and Oregon, with tickets reaching $1,352 on average. But average ticket prices for this weekend's game are in the ballpark with those of other major sporting events, such as Game 7 of this year's World Series ($601.42) and Game 5 of the 2011 NBA Finals ($686.61).
Despite the lofty ticket prices, fans seeking to simply get into the building for the lowest price possible may still have some hope provided they have some additional money. As of Tuesday evening, the least expensive game ticket listed on SeatGeek was $331 for a seat in the 31st row of the South End Zone upper deck.
