Trey Quinn chooses LSU

Rivals250 wide receiver Trey Quinn of Barbe couldn't quantify the exact amount of pressure that was relieved off his shoulders with one phone call.

With his senior season three weeks away Quinn, the nation's No. 14 wide receiver and four-star prospect, brought his recruiting process to a close when the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder called LSU football coach Les Miles on Friday to offer his commitment.
News of the pledge didn't filter out until Saturday evening, giving Quinn enough time to personally call coaches from Clemson, Texas Tech and Auburn to inform them of his decision to remain in state.
"We were trying to get it done before school started," Quinn said. "I just feel comfortable with it all. I talked to my parents about it, I slept on it and gave it some good thought. What's going on at LSU is something I want to be a part of. I'm pretty excited.
"It was a real relief. Coach Miles said he was excited to hear about it. They were in a meeting and he told everybody and you could hear them all celebrating in the background. It was a pretty cool deal."
The commitment of Quinn, the 14th in LSU's current recruiting class, could be the impetus needed for the Tigers to construct what most observers believe will be a Top 5 group.
LSU had been without a commitment for nearly a month since Rivals250 quarterback Brandon Harris pledged several days after taking part in the Tigers elite summer
camp.
That proved to be somewhat of a turning point in Quinn's process, having worked out a day at the same camp with Harris and getting an opportunity to be around several of LSU's commitments such as offensive lineman William Clapp and other top-flight recruits.
Quinn, along with his father Dave, also spent a good portion meeting with LSU's
coaches before departing back to Lake Charles.
"It was a good visit," Quinn said. "Just being around everybody always helps, especially the recruits coming in and catching balls from Brandon Harris. I stay in touch with Will Clapp. It was great that one last visit, getting it in.
They (LSU staff) let me know how much they wanted me and what we could do when I got there," Quinn said. "There's nothing better in recruiting than building relationships. They did a good job of not pressuring me and not suffocating me."
During their one day together at the camp it was obvious that Quinn and Harris had built a strong rapport. Their chemistry was uncanny during 7-on-7 competition. They also seemed to hang around a lot outside of drills and keep each other's company.
Quinn admitted that Harris expressed a desire to be teammates once LSU offered the quarterback in May.
With a year still to play Quinn has already made quite an imprint on Barbe's record book. With another productive year, Quinn could have his hands on both state and national career receiving marks.
Quinn, who earned Class 5A All-State honors a year ago, caught 115 passes for 2,141 yards and 26 touchdowns and helped Barbe (13-2) make its first appearance in the state title game.
For his career Quinn has caught 249 passes for 4,599 yards and 47 touchdowns. He needs 1,269 yards this year to surpass former LSU and Evangel Christian's Abram Booty to become the state's career receiving leader and needs 1,758 to surpass the national career yardage mark held by current Missouri wide out Dorial Green-Beckham.
Quinn, who will take part in the U.S. Army All-American Game, also is chasing the school's career multiple-purpose yardage record (he's 905 short) of 7,236 held by former LSU running back Justin Vincent.
Arguably the biggest selling point for Quinn came six months ago when Miles hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to help turn LSU's moribund passing game into a more efficient way to move the ball.
Whether it was a spring practice or prior game film, Quinn was more than ecstatic over the prospect of LSU's offense under Cameron's direction.
"I think the passing attack's going to come alive, "Quinn said. "Everybody can see it right now and just wait for the fall. I think what he's going to do with the passing attack I think is going to be something great."
Quinn had an instant impact on LSU's recruiting class with his commitment moving the Tigers up to No. 16 nationally with plenty of room to improve. He's also the eighth in-state prospect for the Tigers and third wide receiver along with Alexandria's D.J. Chark and Tony Upchurch of Pearland, Texas.
"It was good to go through the process," Quinn said. "LSU was my first offer. It was good to check out other options and building relationships with other coaches. But when it comes down to it LSU was the place I decided I wanted to be."
