Tyler Shelvin doesn't travel with the team to Florida

LSU will be short a notable defensive lineman this weekend in The Swamp.

Redshirt freshman note tackle Tyler Shelvin did not travel with the team to Florida, according to multiple media reports. The 6-foot-3, 360-pound Shelvin has played sparingly this season and Ed Orgeron has hinted at some new plans to reinvigorate the pass rush for this weekend’s SEC tilt.

Shelvin has played sparingly this season, appearing in one game.

The former Rivals 5-star defensive tackle was among LSU’s highest-rated signees in the Class of 2017, joining the team as Louisiana’s No. 1-ranked prospect and the No. 3 defensive tackle in the nation.

LSU has trotted out a starting three of Breiden Fehoko (NT), Rashard Lawrence (DE) and Glen Logan (DE), with Neil Farrell (DE) and Ed Alexander (NT) as primary rotational players.

Shelvin showed signs of displeasure after not playing in the season-opening victory against then No. 8 Miami, but Ed Orgeron indicated on the following Monday that he spoke with his second-year defensive lineman and looked forward to him being a big contributor for LSU down the road.
