White humbled to join LSUs class

Green Oaks' Tre'Davious White walked briskly from the office of LSU Head Coach Les Miles to his own football coach's car outside in hopes of spreading the good news with his parents that he was officially a member of the Tigers' program.

Thanks to a dead battery, that had to wait while his cell phone recharged long enough for White to text his mother and speak with his father.

It was the kind of news worth waiting for, though, with White becoming the second prospect from Saturday's Junior Day to commit to LSU and third overall in the Class of 2013.

White joined wide receiver Chuck Baker of Salmen as Saturday commitments and also took a spot alongside cornerback Jeryl Brazil of Loranger in LSU's developing recruiting class for next season.

"It's a dream come true," White said. "I'm just blessed to have this opportunity to be noticed by a football program. To get my college paid for -- the education part -- is the best thing ever."

There wasn't a lot stopping White from a LSU commitment two weeks ago when the 6-foot, 170-pounder was on hand for "Boys from the Boot" Junior Day. The versatile standout received a scholarship from Miles but was content to take a step back and take everything in.

This time White was ready to make his feelings known, especially to Miles, who made White aware of LSU's propensity for putting true freshman on the field in varying roles from starters to contributors on special teams.

"He said I made his day," White said of Miles. "When he told me I could play as a freshman I asked him to make sure he was serious. He told I could if I kept working hard. He was talking about my skill set and telling me I needed to work hard.

"He said if I did that I could contribute to the team as a freshman," White said. "That was a big if I keep working hard but I told coach he wouldn't have to worry about that because I was going to keep working even harder and keep pushing it, stay humble. Then I told him I wanted to be a Tiger."

White, the god-brother of former LSU All-American Morris Claiborne, selected LSU over his only other offer from Mississippi State. He also received interest from UCLA, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Missouri, Stanford and Tulane.

Click Here to view this Link.White earned All-City honors by the Shreveport Times after compiling over 2,500 yards worth of offense from his quarterback position. He completed 118 of 234 passes for 1,170 yards and 20 touchdowns to go along with 804 rushing yards and 8 TDs.

White had 45 tackles and four interceptions from his cornerback spot. He also averaged 23.3 yards on kickoff returns.

"Coach (Miles) said I could play receiver, be a corner and return kicks and punts," White said. "I told coach wherever they feel I'm needed or I have the best upside for the future then I want to help the team."

White, a 3.9 student and valedictorian candidate, said there wasn't a lot of difference that separated his two unofficial visits to LSU. There were tours of the campus and opportunities to see some of the school's academic support systems but it was this time around Miles and the coaching staff that made the difference on Saturday and in White's mind helped to seal the deal.

"I really like the coaches because they're family oriented guys," White said. "That's the type of people I like to be around. That's the type of people I was always brought up around. They're the type of people that keep God first and they're family's a top priority and getting your education. That's what the coach's always stressed. The grades are the main thing and football's secondary.

"When I came down last time there were some places I didn't get to see," White said. "Coach kind of recapped our talk from the first time and that's when I told him I wanted to be a Tiger. I wanted to soak everything in on my first visit but this time I was prepared for it. When I woke up this morning it (committing) was the first thing on my mind."
