In the daytime Tiger Stadium is a little easier to win in but... when the sun sets over Tiger Stadium it  becomes Death Valley.  Its a mystique that created the earthquake game against #2 ranked Auburn in 1988 (LSU was average in those days) add the fact you have a talented team and coaching staff... Death Valley becomes very rare to win in. LSU has the longest home winning streak in the nation at 22 straight and over 40 straight non conference games in Tiger Stadium.  The last time Bama went to Death Valley "it was a day game" and Bama lost.  Marcus Lattimore was held to 37 yds rushing for the entire game and Shaw was pressured and took lots of hits not to mention playing in front of a crowd over 93,000 deafening and rowdy LSU fans. Tiger Stadium is one of the loudest in sports not just NCAA football.  I really think Death Valley intimidates teams to play worse  and timid but... in other venues they wouldn't.  Saban knows this first hand... he coached for LSU in Death Valley "he wont admit it to his players" because he is on the visitors side but... Saban knows the mystique that makes Death Valley a hard place for visiting teams to win "deep down" he knows the tide are in for a fight and more than likely a loss.

I don't remember anything about his sideline coaching from that game.  I thought LSU came out too emotional (all the hype from Katrina) and used up all their energy in the first half and had empty tanks in the second half.
