How about a breakdown on your team for us?  I haven't seen Clemson play this year and really don't know too much about their strengths and weaknesses.

For LSU

Offense - We like to run the ball first and despite many team loading the box against us and many losses on the OL this year, we have been pretty successful at it.  Mettenburger really struggled early in the year and a large part of that was becaose of the OL struggling to protect.  They lacked continuity big time as players kept being moved around to fill holes.  We have 2 freshman on the right side and have for the last 4-5 games and during that stretch we have thrown the ball better.  We will try to go over the top 5 times a game and even if it's not complete it helps us keep the safety back and out of the box.

Defense - Our defense is good, but not as good as last year.  Multiple Freshman starting in the secondary and lately they have been giving up some plays.  I think the long season started to take a physical toll on them, hopefully the break will help get their legs back under them.  Minter is a really good linebacker and makes a lot of tackles for us.  The DL is deep and talented.  You can move the ball a bit but LSU seams to make plays to stop drives.

Special Teams.  We have a few returns for TD's this year and a couple more that were called back.  LSU will often sky kick to around the 2 yard line and try to stop you from getting to the 20.  FG kicker has a good leg  and is solid.  Punter is very good and has a tremendous leg.  Teams get very few if any Punt return yards against us.

Offense - we are very young up front, they have held up at times against average defense's. Our schedule this year did not allow us many challenges. Our skilled position players are very good and the HUNH can put defenses on there heels. The QB (Boyd) has a good arm but has a tendency to throw high and can run well enough to keep you honest but the real strength is the WR's. Hopkins and Wakins are very dangerous but physical CB's have had success knocking them off there routes this year.

Defense - Again we are very young up front with one senior at DE, he has not been very productive but the DL did improve against the run as the season progressed. The LB's have played good against the run but has struggled on covering the underneath stuff. The secondary, where do I start? Our top three CB's were injured, I think we will get Breeland back but Robinson and Jenkins were lost for the season. The Safetys seem to be out of position all the time. To sum up the secondary, they are bad. But over all the defense has improved from last year by 5 points per game.

Special teams - good kickers, our return game philosophy this year seems to be fair catch and let the ofense do there thing.

Just to add to what has been said..on offense even though we are a spread team we use TE's in motion to lead block and do run some power type plays. Off of that they mix in some misdirection and play action. They like to call about 4 shots down field each quarter, but if it's not there they check down. They also want to snap the ball about every 14 seconds. the offense we run has to get a rythem going and if LSU can keep the ball 6-7 minutes at a time our offense gets out of synch.

Clempson is soft.

Clemson held USuC's high-powered running game to 45 yards in the first half of our game with them, while Clemson ran for 165 against their top-10 defense in the first half.  In the second half, USuC took the game over by essentially giving up the running game because they could not run against our D and they went completely to a pass game against our pitiful secondary.

The Clemson offense is very, very good; excellent skill players at QB, RB, TE, and WR.  Overall ranked in the top 7 in scoring and yardage.

We should be a pretty good matchup; LSU's great run game against our good run D.  Unless, of course, LSU discovers a passing game.

Good stuff. I expect you guys to be confident that you will win, but what is the general opinion among Clemson fans about LSU and your chances in this game?

I think we need to have the offense in rythem and be successful early. If not I am sure LSU's running game will wear our defense down. Clemson can't have a bunch of 3 and outs and keep the defense on the field. That is my fear in this game. Against South Carolina it seemed our WR's dropped more passes than they had for the whole year.

So what I expect to happen is we move the ball some and score a few points, but we have trouble stopping LSU and getting the defense off the field. LSU wins.

I hope we come out firing on all cylinders and make the LSU offense have to press a little and do things out of charector to score. It will take our best execution, but it has happened before. If so, Clemson wins.

I am a Clemson fan, and i think i can speak for many when i say....  We believe we can win this game.  To say we have no chance to win this game is not accurate.  We can absolutely win it.  However, if LSU is able to emulate the South Carolina game plan from the second half of our game w them, we'll be in trouble.  Ball control(and limiting our possessions) is the key to beating Clemson.
If given enough opportunities, and snaps against any defense, i feel, we can be successful with our offense.
Bottom line though, for us to beat LSU, we will absolutely have to win the turnover battle, and do a better job of getting off the field with our third down defense.  We've been better at stopping the run....but as an honest fan i would say..

I've seen you guys play, and i know your depth at tailback, and certainly on the D line.  I'd say chances are, if you're successful using your depth at tailback to run it on us, that will play directly into the hands of your strength(d-line) and will ultimately be the difference.

My gut tells me it will be similar to our South Carolina game.  Close in the 4th qtr with ya'll pulling away with 8-10 minutes left and winning by 7+

Again, turnovers are key.  South Carolina was the better team and deserved to beat us this year...However, if we had gotten a late stop, or a key turnover late...we would have been in a position to win in the end...despite their overall superiority this year.

I'll say 31-20 LSU if i had to guess right now.

Lastly though....If ya'll play the way you did against Arkansas and Ole Miss down the stretch(specifically on defense)...than we definitely could catch you, because i am certain that our offense presents every bit the challenge to defend(if not more) than eith of those teams.  But i don't expect to see that with a month to rest and prepare on your end.

You're right about that Keesh, if we play defense like we did late in the year, at least in the secondary, then we will be in trouble.  I'm hoping it was mostly Freshman getting tired and making mental mistakes.

From having played against Clemson and having seen LSU play many times I'll put my opinion in here.  I am predicting a very close game unless either team makes a bunch of turnovers.  LSU has a great defense and Clemson has a great offense.  That should be fun to watch.  But Clemson will put its share of points on the board.  They have too many weapons to just stop completely.  But LSU's pass rush should help them because South Carolina having Jadeveon Clowney to rush the passer really helped them against Clemson.  The unknown for me is LSU's offense against Clemson's defense.  Clemson's defense has been up and down (gave up 49 points to us early in the season).  Clemson's defense not being able to get off the field on 3rd down really killed their chances against South Carolina.  If we see the Zach Mettenburger that played against Alabama then I think LSU wins.  If we see the Zach Mettenburger that played against Florida then I think Clemson will win.  All in all it should be a great matchup and I will be excited to watch it.

Most expect to lose because everyone is still pissed about the SCar game.

I'm not going to predict the outcome of the game. I certainly hope that LSU wins. I will say this about clemson: their fans, their team, including coaches, and their local media, is treating this game like the Super Bowl.

USC went up to clemson with their  2nd string QB, had to use their 3rd string RB due to injuries. Had 112 yds in penalties, a TD called back, an INT called back & still gave up only 3 pts after the 1st qtr. LSU needs to just line up & pound the ball as clemson is very soft on defense.  I just do not see them stopping LSU if LSU sticks to what it does best & that is pounding the ball. I do think you are a much better matchup for clemson than TAMU would have been as you are more ball control. AM would hang 70+ on clemson just like WVA because as one poster said, their DB's are the worst I've seen in a long, long time. Ellington is a real good back but Watkins & Hopkins (WR's) are much less effective against physical DB's.

the Scar fan is right about one thing.  Our secondary is the worst I have ever seen it.  Harbison (who has since moved on to Auburn) was partially to blame and talent is partially to blame.  Our secondary often has mental mistakes and they just don't understand the basics.  Mental mistakes and not taking away the inside I put fully on Harbison.  Clemson nation was throwing a party when he left.  You did leave out certain things about our game though.  CU had multiple very iffy PI calls that kept your drives alive and you scored back to back TDs off of those.  You can't deny that.  Your crazy about Watkins and Hopkins.  They are absolute beasts against anyone.

QBs - Clemson
RBs - Tie (Ellington is very underrated)
WRs/TEs - Clemson
Dline - LSU
LBs - LSU
Secondary - LSU
Specialist - Clemson (only because you lost Wingo)
OL - LSU

Nobody is predicting that we will win just because of the fact that our secondary is just that bad.  We made a JV qb look like Steve Young.  I fully expect Mettenberger to go off, and yes I know how bad he is.  We are just on another level of bad in our secondary.

LSU-35
Clemson-24

I think CU is on the right track. A lot of us do. However, this season you cannot patch this secondary hole against top competition.  Hope I am wrong.  This is JMO.

Clemson did have ONE bad PI call go against them, but they had SEVERAL NO CALLS in their favor so you can't use that excuse

You must have bee drunnk during the game. The two PI calls occured on the same drive. That drive ended with an interception in the endzone. They cost you ZERO points. Watkins is a beast against anyone? He caught 1 ball last year against USC & 4 this year. Beastly. Ha
